Bressan dialect belongs to the francoprovenÇal or arpitan languages. Arpitan or francoprovenÇal is one of three 'official' languages in France (French or langue d'oil and occitan or langue d'oc being the other two). It is spoken by more than 150,000 people in the southeastern part of France (Savoie, Fribourg), the northwest of Italy (Aosta valley) and the east of Switzerland (French cantons of Valais, Fribourg and Vaud).
Bressan is spoken near the city of Bourg-en-Bresse, in the region of Bresse in the east of France.

For more arpitan: see 'Arpitan-Orb', and Arpitan-Gruérien.
